O my goodness this came highly recommended from our son who is quite particular
We were in Paris for a week and hit most of the hot restaurants but this was by far our most innovative and best tasting meal it's a farm to table seasonal menu and from start to finish was simply delish
The vegetables were so fresh and so perfectly seasoned and the lamb was excellent
We also loved the lobster
A couple came in just for desserts and loved them
Service was also excellent
I would highly recommend its restaurant
We will go back

We loved this restaurant and it was the first night of their Fall menu. My rack of lamb was wonderful. The owner is charming and the restaurant is cozy. The service is excellent. Go! You will not be disappointed!

We liked La Bonne Excuse http://www.restaurantlerestaurantparis.com/index.html so much we dined there twice on our recent trip to Paris. We'd been given a list of 'must' restaurants, however all of them were so formal, or so expensive that we turned to Trip Advisor to select a few places to try. La Bonne Excuse was #38 of all restaurants in Paris so we selected that one first.
This is a small place, perhaps seating 40, so a reservation is a very good idea. We got same day reservations, and walked over from our 1st Arr. hotel near the Louvre. They are a block or two east of Ru Bac. We were seated by the waitress/hostess Farida, whose English is very good. The kitchen opens into the dining room with a large window. There are 2 chefs, hard at work, and 1 busboy. Small kitchen, small dining room, small staff but the experience of eating their food was HUGE!
The first night we dined on their late summer menu, which sadly is no longer offered. The pork in a Calvado sauce was excellent, and we split the chocolate dessert, which you must give the kitchen 10 minutes notice when you order. I highly advise saving room for their desserts, the apple caramel dessert takes 20 minutes, order it when you are served your main course. For foie gras lovers, this is an entree (1st course) always on the menu, and it's divine!
We were told that the menu was changing Thursday, so on Friday night, our last night in Paris we walked over from touring at the Louvre (which is open late Friday) and enjoyed another excellent repast. When we walked in the hostess greeted us by name, and the chef Jose came out of the kitchen to shake our hands. That's how friendly and welcoming this place is. The new menu enticed us to order the Lamb and the Steak with Foie Gras and potatoes
We noticed our first visit that the diners were international, our second visit we noticed many Americans. We mentioned that we read about La Bonne Excuse on Trip Advisor and several other diners echoed that they had found them there as well.
Note to Trip Advisor - your website made our Paris vacation so much better! Great recommendations and on target reviews made choosing where to eat so easy!
Please go to La Bonne Excuse and tell them the couple from Philadelphia says hi!

Be prepared to enjoy exceptional cooking in a small, sedate restaurant. The host is gracious, knowledgeable, and extremely welcoming. On our two visits she made excellent recommendations for food and wine, which included appetizers (foie gras with baked figs, and sauteed wild cep mushrooms), and entrees (pan seared pork tenderloin and baby vegetables, roast turbot, monkfish in a bitter lemon sauce, and cod with langoustines),and deserts (molten chocolate cake and apple tart). We ate on the last evening of one seasonal menu, and the first day of a new one. Everything was deliciously fresh, beautifully prepared, and well presented. While the restaurant may be expensive for many, it is a worthwhile splurge.

Agreed with everything previous reviews said. We had the most satisfying dinner in Paris at La Bonne Excuse. You must try the lamb, the chocolate lava and the apple tarte, definitely the best I've ever had!
The best part is that we get to talk to the chef himself and his wife. We were the last customers that day, and it was past the closing hour of the restaurant, and they were so nice and still take their time chatting with us. We learnt that all ingredients Jose uses are fresh from the market, nothing frozen or canned in his restaurant. he even went to the back of the kitchen and brought out 5 different tomatoes to show us, all which I've never seen before. Their menu changes twice every season, according to the seasonal ingredients that's available, such as truffles will be available to their menu one week after our visit, only harvested in autumn; a specific scallop that will be legal to fish starting 17th of Oct will be brought in live, and Jose will cook them fresh... Some times he adds a tiny bit of Spanish accent to his food, some times he was inspired to use an Asian ingredient in a specific dish. He puts a lot of thoughts and creation into his dishes, and you can truly tell. Since Jose starts his day in the restaurant at 7am every morning to prepare everything fresh, we felt bad to deprive his sleep any further, and left with the best satisfaction a restaurant can offer.
Sadly we discovered La Bonne Excuse on the last day of our trip, but we will definitely come back next time we're in paris. La Bonne Excuse, la bonne cuisine.

“Excellent Quiet Venue for Quality Cooking”

Had dinner with a big group of 5 others a week ago and the experience was excellent. The menu isn't large and so we managed to try more or less all of the mains. The entrees were very well executed - we had the two seafood entrees. Thoughtfully presented, they were surprisingly good - taking each portion of the entree on its own might lead one to feel that it was bland but putting them together you get an explosion of subtle flavors in the mouth - flavors that somehow come together to give a coherent dish.
The mains were similarly well executed, but special mention should be made for the monk fish and the beef.
Desserts: the apple tart - best in the world. What else needs to be said?
That being said, the bill came up to a very affordable 250 euros for a 2 entrees, 6 mains, 3 desserts, a carafe of wine (good enough) and a bottle of sparkling water.
Excellent value and an impressive modern take on classic french cooking.

This is simple French Cooking at its finest- not haute cuisine. The menu on our visit consisted of Monk Fish, Sea Bass, Filet, Pork Tenderloin, and Lamb. We had the Sea Bass, Tenderloin, and Lamb. All of the seasonings were subtle and understated, but were perfect complements to each dish. All ingredients were fresh and pleasantly flavorful without being overpowering.
This was not a restaurant with heavy sauces or a lot of fat and salt in the dishes (well OK we did have foie gras as a starter- but that is just fatty in and of itself. It was great too BTW).
It is a small restaurant with great ambience and a very small staff. The owner spent 10 minutes talking to us and most of the other patrons who were open to it. We booked last minute on a Friday evening thinking that we probably wouldn't get a table due to the positive Trip Advisor reviews, but this was not the case. There were only two other tables filled at 8:30 on a Friday night. I think this is because the neighborhood (Orsay) slows down a lot after the museum closes (this place is by not means touristy feeling). So it is a great choice if you want an excellent quiet meal short notice. We were so pleased to have found it after a long and busy day at the Paris Air Show and seeing the sights around town.
Also, I guess pricing is in the eye of the beholder. I thought the prices were very low for the quality of the experience. Three of us had appetizers, Entrees, dessert (crazy good), and a mid-price bottle of wine and the bill was only 217 Euro (the wine was 60 Euro).
